There’s something about this that makes me want to keep listening. I honestly didn’t really like Sophie’s stuff at first, but I couldn’t get some of the stuff out of my head. I’m still unsure as to whether I like it or I just can’t stop listening. Also check out his other stuff, like “Hard”.

•September 30, 2014 • Leave a CommentHow obscure can we get? Probably not much more than this. Swiiim released this album last year, and for whatever reason, it hasn’t gotten much attention at all since then. Personally, I think it deserves at least some recognition because there’s some really good music on it. Take for example, this song I’m posting right now. Definitely check out the other songs off of Cellophane Castle too.

•September 19, 2014 • Leave a CommentThis starts off like any other beat-driven synth production, but as it goes on, it really pulls away from songs from the genre tend to do. This is probably one of the more accessible ones by him, but he’s so good at using the contrasts between harmony and dissonance between different parts of the song so that it all flows together wonderfully.

•September 2, 2014 • Leave a CommentI really really like this one, like all the other songs I post. This is one of those bands whose name I’ve heard thrown around a lot, but I’d never really heard anything by them until now, and I can see why they’re name dropped so often.

•August 19, 2014 • Leave a Comment“So much grams, unzip the bag, dip in my hand, then I palm trees”. This guy has a pretty gruff voice, almost like a cross between the guy from Death Grips and the guy from Future Islands. Intuitively, that wouldn’t lend itself to music as mellow as this, but they pull it off somehow. These guys released the entire 20 track mixtape this is off of for free on their website, so definitely check that out. You can’t say no to free music.

•June 10, 2014 • Leave a CommentGoing back in time a little bit. Joy Division is a great band from a great time. On the surface, it’s easy to call some of the bass and guitar chords pretty basic, and that wouldn’t be wrong; however, the talent lies in both their ability to combine these simple chords into something more complex and their ability to grow as a band. However, Joy Division doesn’t exist anymore; when making the band, the band members made a pact to perform under a different name, a pact they stayed true to when front-man Ian Curtis committed suicide in 1980. A couple of the members still perform today as New Order.

•May 15, 2014 • Leave a CommentAm I late on the draw on this one? Probably. For the longest time, I didn’t like this band. I didn’t hate them, but they never did it for me, at least until recently. I’ve always been trying to get into them to no avail, but finally they just clicked. They’re really good and really unique in their sound; what’s more is that they released a new album a few months back, and still managed to keep their unique sound, which is something that’s becoming more and more rare it seems -cough Tokyo Police Club cough Forcefield-. Definitely check these guys out, listen to stuff like “Shuffle”, “Always Like This”, “Luna”, and the ambient “How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep?”.
